Reminder, En Retard!
Feb. 9th, 2006 01:19 pmOh yeah, it's Thursday again. My, how time flies when you're having fun and stuff. Except that I'm not really having fun, sitting here in the office doing work and such, but if I were elsewhere, I'm certain I'd be having fun. Yes indeedy.
Anyway, my fun levels are irrelevant. Your fun levels might be reaching new lows, however, if you have not yet participated in this week's quiz offering. It's good to see lots of newfaces names playing this week, as well as all our quiz veterans. Remember- the more who play, the funnier it gets. Theoretically. Really, it's the more we drink, the funnier it gets to us. So I suppose you've got to take it with a grain of ethanol. But enough jabber. Go play! Play now!
Also,
barbarienne said I could eat her kitten.

Date: 2006-02-09 03:18 pm (UTC)I think I recall reading in a previous quiz that you worked for the UN. If so, that's be ace as that is what my question is about. If no, than possibly you have no idea and maybe you might consider a career at the UN?
So, over Christmas (yes, I am *that* slow) I was talking to a lass who was interning or working for the UN and she mentioned that when Kofi Annan is done with his Secretary-Generaling that *everyone* who holds a position of power or authority has to leave their position, too. And possibly leave the UN completely. Is that true? If so, I can see the benefits, sure, but then who is around to read the minutes of the last UN meeting if the old minute-reader is gone? And who then become the power-wielders? And why are *all* of the Sephora's in Manhattan out of the lipstick I want?
Okay, that last one isn't so much directed at you as it is just something incredibly irritating.
Thank you in advance. I have been meaning to ask for [checks calender] about 40 days. How biblical.

Date: 2006-02-09 03:30 pm (UTC)Yes, I work at the UN.
When the Secretary-General finishes his term, all of the senior officials do not have to immediately quit their jobs and disappear. Not even close. Annan was himself one such senior official for years during previous Secretaries-General, and not only did not leave, but was elected to the post himself.
Now, it is possible (and probable) that some of the senior officials will choose to resign, or request reassignment, upon the transfer of power. And it is possible (and equally probable) that the new Secretary-General might replace or reassign such officials as he/she sees fit. But by no means is any of it mandatory.
Also, the Sephora's are out because all the Europeans come to New York and buy it all. It's cheaper here than over there.
Anything else? Feel free to ask; I am a veritable fountain of knowledge and information! Not wisdom, though. That's a bit much.
And welcome aboard, if you are (relatively) new! Hope you played (insert unsubtle hint to do so if you have not here)! And hope you enjoy! And, uh, eat more pudding!
