Yes, yes, a little bit late here. Had some issues with a cheeky hurricane and then some other cheeky issues with cheeky work and delays and blah blah blah cheeky. Let's get this cheeky ball rolling!

1. Marvel comics character Yuriko Oyama is better known by which moniker?

"The evil wench that married John Lennon and broke up the Beatles" - [livejournal.com profile] love2loveher, [livejournal.com profile] sskipstress

"Wolverine fangirl" - [livejournal.com profile] usmu

"The Survivor of Battle Royale? That girl creeped me the fuck out" - [livejournal.com profile] drunken_hedghog

(Little known fact: Adamantium makes for an excellent cello. -CV)

"i think shes definitly not that chick that ben afflecks wife played in the movie that is the only redeeming quality of his horrible daredevil movie. I MEAN WHO PUTS COLIN FERRIL IN A BALD CAP?!?!?!" - [livejournal.com profile] kira_snugz

(Letting Michael Clark Duncan beat the shit out of Ben Affleck is the other redeeming part of the film. -CV)

"Storm's bisexual love interest. Serious, in one of the X-Men annuals, the X-Men were thrown into their own personal perfect worlds. And what does Storm dream up? Not a life in an African paradise. Not ruling the X-Men like the perfect leader she would be. She dreams of running across the rooftops of Tokyo with a Japanese thief. Oh, Storm. We love you on both sides of the street" - [livejournal.com profile] lots42

(That was another Asian chick, as [livejournal.com profile] etumukutenyak also pointed out. But good showing. -CV)

"Cheezy Ethnic Stereotype! Quickly, to the Clichemobile!" - [livejournal.com profile] thepikey

"Well, I know Oyama means 'big mountains' in Japanese, if you know what I mean. (I mean I bet she has enormous breasts.)" - [livejournal.com profile] mandydax

"I'll take any bet that I'm the only quizling who not only owns the book, but has actually read it!" - [livejournal.com profile] germankitty

(You can claim ownership, but not necessarily readership...)

"Oh, Sir Thomas 'Spoilers and Even the Remotest Attempts at Historical Accuracy Weren't a Thing in the Fifteenth Century' Malory. Seriously, King Arthur is crowned Emperor of Rome (I don't care if Monmouth did it first) and the inevitable fall of the idyllic kingdom and its king is given away in the title. And there you have it, the Quiz of Death. All you had to do was answer three questions six questions to pass. Or cross. Or something. Hopefully none of you were flung into the Gorge of Eternal Peril for webcheating or other heinous crimes.

Thanks for playing, as always; the end of the year is getting closer, which means... stuff! This means something! Specifically, it means that tomorrow there will be a new quiz. Which you should all play, of course.

Rock On!

Triple quotage. Okay.

Oh, and CV? Re: Malory's Morte D'Arthure -- "(You can claim ownership, but not necessarily readership...)"

Freshman English, fall term 1975, Introduction to English Lit I -- Literary Romance. You bet your ass I read that thing, along with such gems as "Sir Gawain and the Grene Knight", "The Mysteries of Udolpho" and "The Lord of the Rings". I groaned my way through all, until Tolkien defeated even my freshman zeal. I still haven't got past p.150 or so, in nearly 40 years!

Edited because I overlooked 's +1 and stopped gloating so he doesn't get to.

When I was 12, I discovered Isaac Asimov and Robert A. Heinlein. :) Never looked back!

(Tolkien just doesn't do it for me. Tried several times to read it -- hubby is a fan -- but it's just too boring. Great story, no doubt, it's the style that puts me off.)

I own it and have read it. I'm English major and a medievalist at heart. I loved Sir Gawain and the Grene Knight (not so much the Tolkien translation, but that's why I've read others). Love The Lord of the Rings. Except "The Council of Elrond." I always skim that bit.

Have NOT read The Mysteries of Udolpho, but I have been meaning to. Read The Castle of Wulfenbach and The Monk instead.

*high fives for readerly folk!*

*high-fives you back, uses one halfway fitting icon*

"The Monk" -- I knew missed one!

Unfortunately, I was thrown into the deep end with Sir Gawain -- we had the middle-English original, straight out of school! The most fun in that class, though, was getting to read T.H.White's "The Once And Future King"!

(And the next semester led me to Anglo-Saxon -- I was immersed in Bede and Beowulf until I graduated. *shudders at younger self's idiocy*

I also own it and have read it; took a kimg arthur class in college. Much prefer Gawain and the Green Knight (anyone read the new-ish translation by Simon Armitage? Really good). Just finished LOTR on audiobook, couldn't get through the printed version.

I'm still offended they remade Death at a Funeral. Because REALLY, like Chris Rock needed another vehicle. Ugh.

THANK YOU. You might be the only person who agrees with me.

The cast were WAY better in the original (excluding Peter Dinklage of course), and dammit, it works much better when you've got a load of uptight English people flapping around than when you've got Chris Rock over-emoting and pulling stupid faces. It's the subtlety that makes it!

Don't even get me started on the remake's tagline vs the original tagline. Ugh.

No Geek of the Week for pointing a part of an X-Men Annual? They should get credit for just reading the thing--usually annuals just a long, boring, cross-titled, multipart, gotta-buy-em-all-to-get-the-whole-story, crossover. My hat's off to 'em!
