We used to have a possum that lived underneath the family room. Since all our pets are indoor-only, and my sister and I had reached moderate sentience, we mostly ignored it. Mama possums being ridden like a school bus have a rather high entertainment value when you're moderately sentient, though, as I recall.

Eventually, we got a panicked call from one of our neighbors. "Oh my god, there's a possum in your backyard!!" I don't quite remember Mom's response, but I don't remember she and Dad trying very hard to evict the possum.
