The month of May rewards us with pleasant weather, but for many that weather is wasted while students work hard to prepare for finals and other end-of-the-semester objectives. That's a lot of hard work you all have going for you there. But remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull quizling; go on, take a study break, and answer some easier questions in the form of this week's LJDQ offering. It'll only take a few minutes. Go on now, do it. You'll feel better. Refreshed and revitalized, even. See if you don't.

If you want to cool off during the month, maybe these guys are your speed:
FUZZY!
I wonder if penguins are tasty. Good enough for sea lions, good enough for me, I say!

Play the quiz! It's good for you!

Disclaimer: In no way is the [livejournal.com profile] ljdq actually good for your studious habits and scholarly pursuits. Do your work, kiddies.

I'm done with all four of my APs now.

If I get bad scores on them, you guys have to treat me to consolation alcoholic beverages. (18 is drinking age in Taiwan, so hah.) XP

I'm just wondering why it's the LJDQ when the D stands for Daily, yet I'm fairly sure there's only the one weekly quiz.

Ya know... I almost miss finals. At least then you knew there was an end to the misery, after a break you could start in on a whole new set of courses/misery. But out here in the working world... no break, no change in routine, no end in sight. God I'm depressed... now I need a drink.

Speaking as one who gives the finals (put those clubs down), let me say 1) they can't come (and go) soon enough, and 2) I loooooooooooovvvvvvvve Scantron. There's a special room in heaven for reserved for the inventor of Scantron.

And you know you live in Arizona when 'air conditioning' is referred to as 'refrigeration'. I am not making this up. We're expecting our first 100+ degree day here today, too--the first of, oh, about 120 of them. Huh-frikkin'-zah.

Oh, and always hit a soft 18 against a dealer 10.

I just wanted to say that Monday, I had my first gin and tonic (with a splash of lime) I now understand all the ado about gin.

I'd always heard it was nasty, so never drank it, but my husband loves gin and tonic, so he bribed me into having one. I've been making them for him forever, but never tried it.

Sort of like drinking very yummy horse liniment. Maybe it was horse liniment...*goes to check the bottle* Nah, it's Gordons. Unless they put horse liniment in there. *ponders*

Oh, I'm down in the corner, 'round Yuma 'ways--land of sunshine and snowbirds. We have a much nicer view of hell from here. The upside is that I've almost forgotten what the term 'wind chill' means from my childhood years in Iowa. And don't believe the "but it's a dry heat" nonsense...come down here during the monsoons in July-September and you'll see.

Don't re-fucking-mind me. Brain is ded from calculus and chemistry. I think my funny has gone into hiding from the mean formulas and reactions and equations.

I seriously think that my head will explode before the end of this. And it will spew differentials and mechanisms and integrals all over the place, along with the deep-fried-and-dunked-in-chocolate remains of my brain cells.

Speaking as one who grew up in the almost but not quite as hot as Arizona but still brutally hot El Paso....seems horrible @ the time, but I'd rather have that than the thrice-damned humidity here in Houston. Sweat doesn't work, and you need real AC, not swamp coolers...

BAH!

Ok, now try a GOOD gin and tonic. Here is the Hivemind's staple:

Get thee
1 bottle of Bombay Sapphire (shell out the dough)
1 bottle Nellie and Joe's Key Lime juice (not the kind from the little green plastic bottles, real Key Lime juice)
2 1-liter bottles of your favorite tonic
1 64-oz 7-Eleven Mega-Gulp cup
Buncha ice

Fill the glass halfway with large ice cubes. Fill between 1/3 and 1/2 with the Bombay. Pour a healthy amount of Nellie in there (But not too much, this isn't lime-aid). Fill the rest with tonic. Stir and enjoy. Make 1 (one) serving.

While we occasionally mix smaller versions of this, I heartily endorse the imbibing of the full-size Bombay Nellie as a way to pass the evening and possibly your dinner.

That is how I make mine, except for the gin being Gordons. I use fresh limes, but sometimes bottled key lime juice.
Don't mind shelling out the dough, but I didn't know if it was worth it or not. Blue drinks always reminds me of Romulan ale on Star Trek.

There's something about the tonic too. Two bitter flavors cancelling themselves out? I don't like tonic water per se either, but it works with the gin and the lime.
That's why I never tried it before, separately it all tastes nasty.

Oh, I used to work as a chef. Slicing things up is something I do in my sleep. Maybe that's why I don't get invited to a lot of slumber parties?

Oh, that's good to know. I looked for Bombay Sapphire today, but it wasn't there at my usual place. :( Shall have to go haunt other liquor stores/bars.

*points and laughs at people and their silly finals as he continues to enjoy his two-year-running vacation from schooliness*

For the record, I imagine it tastes noticably like chicken, by the way.

Random Fact #1879 and example #4589 of Political Correctness Gone Too Far....

Did you know that here in Australia the famous "Fairy Penguins" of Phillip Island have now been re-named "Little Penguins" for fear that people in the gay community may become offended by the use of the word 'fairy' ???!!!

As a member of the gay community that caused me to reach for my handy bucket and become heartily sick.... as someone who is a bit vertically challenged myself, I wonder how those who suffer from Dwarfism feel about the name change??

Comments? Anyone want a lend of my handy bucket?

You mean that hasn't happened already?

I'm still waiting for the day a lovely rainbow appears in the sky after rain with the words, "This is not a political statement" occurring naturally under it......

Ugh, exams. I am so jealous of my friend, she has her last exam today whereas mine don't even start till next week.

My last one is on the 5th of June, so don't expect any coherent answers from me that week. I will either be ded from Greek or still drunk from celebrating. Hopefully the latter.

Then wail in despair as it reminds me of my impending doom rapidly approaching Greek exam.
