[identity profile] chaosvizier.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] ljdq
December moves swiftly in its appointed rounds, or in the course of human events, or in its pace from day to day... something like that. Anyway, it's moving quickly enough for me to be late with this reminder to not be late answering this week's quiz offering. But haste makes waste, and I wanted to ponder something suitable for this message. And then my brain said "Mmmmm, Brazilian volleyball" and that was it.

Meanwhile, since it is the holiday season, why not let the infamous Badgers share a little bit of the Christmas spirit in their own special way? Yeah, I thought you would.

And, as it is a season for giving and sharing, [livejournal.com profile] mightygodking asked us if we would spread the news about his community, [livejournal.com profile] improved_archie. Considering how unsubtly we've been asking all of you to spread the word about [livejournal.com profile] ljdq, we agree that a little something in return is not unheard of. Also, having seen the comm, it's got the potential for a lot of funny if a bunch of photoshop-and-humor-gifted players step up to bat. Plus, it makes fun of Archie, and that's worth it right there.

Meanwhile, Happy Immaculate Conception, for all you Catholics out there. It's a Holy Day Of Obligation, so get your asses to church!

P.S. - Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Conception took place on Dec 8 and J.C was born Dec 25, does that mean a 2.5 week incubation period, or a full year of development? Did babies take longer to make back then? Or are Sons Of God high-speed in the fetal development stage? Inquiring minds want to know!

P.P.S. - Settle down. I'm heretical, and I'm going to hell. I know this. Go flame Jack Thompson instead.

I wonder of Mike Dicta celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Interception . . . with Da Bears!

Actually, the immaculat conception refers to Mary being born without sin.

Or so says this lapsed catholic!

It's Mary's conception that's being celebrated - Immaculate Conception means she was conceived without original sin, making her fit to be Jesus's mother. It has nothing to do with Jesus's conception though that's a (pardon the pun - wait, I'm on ljdq) common misconception.

Touchdown Jesus!

Man, I bet there are soon to be several coments on the Immaculate conception really being about Anna's conception of Mary, but what do I know. I'm just a jew. A lonely jew. Having chinese for Christmas dinner.

Aww. If you lived closer to Boston, I'd invite you to come to dinner on Xmas with me and the other Jews. My buddy who lives in the apartment upstairs cooks a great meal. There might even be latkes.

To address the P.S. It's the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, not Jesus. Just like all humans other than Adam, Eve, and Mary, Jesus was born with Original Sin, thus necessitating his baptism my John. Since Adam and Eve weren't actually born, and the whole apple incident caused original sin to curse humans, they didn't have it. Mary is God's only exception. Even though he supposedly gave her the choice on whether or not to have the kid, he'd already given her a "bye" on the whole sin thing.

Wow. This is me, being a Catholic nerd again, isn't it? I'm going to go back to whatever it was I was doing. Right-o.

How does the old saying go? Jesus was a middle-aged man with no job who lived with his mother who thought he was God? Of course he was Jewish!

wow, i'm glad so many quizlings so far have been able to correct the mods and that i don't have to do it!

the whole immaculate conception of mary thing is just weird, though... it's like, did her parents have to have some sort of special circumstances of birth in order for her immaculate conception to be possible? and why wasn't a regular chick good enough to be the christotokos? wouldn't it have been even cooler if she had? a demonstration of "in god all things are possible."

And just when Joe thinks JC will at least be able to take over the family business, the fool goes all hippie street-corner and gets Himself in trouble with the law.

According to every Protestant doctrine I'm aware of, she was indeed pretty much a normal teenager before Gabriel came along. And I agree: that makes it all the more interesting that God could and did use someone so ordinary.

Your amazing mix of Star Wars and Catholicism makes me feel compelled to share Groundhog Jesus (http://nucd.keenspace.com/d/20050327.html), inspired by this LJ post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/gilesleary/74224.html).

It still makes me smile.
