Lock Jaw: Distressful Quietness
May. 14th, 2009 10:06 amHalfway through May, tralloo, trallay! We're also halfway through this week, and so you should make sure you've done your civic duty and play this week's quizly offering. Remember that the quiz contains the recommended daily allowance of nine vitamins and iron1, is not a source of greenhouse gases2, is tax deductible and charitable3, and will cure what ails you4. So get out there and play, because if you don't, you might die5.
Go! Play! Take Quiz!
1 This only works if you print the quiz out, shred it, and mix it in with your Corn Flakes.
2 Ok, that's only partly true. I farted three times while writing this reminder. Greenhouse gases smell like eggses!
3 The tax of zero is still zero, so I guess that works. And they say that laughter is a gift, and we're giving it, so that's charitable, because we do it for free.
4 They also say that laughter is the best medicine. That means it cures what ails you. Unless you have swine flu; then you're buggered.
5 Even if you do play, you're going to die; we can't help that. Maybe it'll put it off for a bit.
6 Profit!

Date: 2009-05-15 11:40 am (UTC)Ever since CV failed to acknowledge the superb character that is the Librarian, I have noticed an ever-increasing number of suspicious Discworld related comments.
The first one was the Hogfather question, last week, it was a +1 to a Discworld reference, now foot-noting like T.P. Where will the madness end?!
=D I am very pleased that CV is making an effort to embrace all of our quizling-nerd-culture!

Date: 2009-05-15 12:07 pm (UTC)Maybe one day I'll get around to reading some Discworld stuff. But, in the words of t-shirt slogans everywhere, "Today is not your day. Tomorrow isn't looking too good either."

Date: 2009-05-16 12:02 pm (UTC)In any case, I blame any lack of SP knowledge on my part to do with the fact that I spent most of my teenage years under a rock (my mother). I wasn't allowed to watch such interesting shows.
And now as a mother of a young, impressionable boy, I have to watch SP in secret, (I don't get much time to do that!) because if he hears the theme music, he comes a runnin'... I don't need a wannabe Cartman on my hands... I'd prefer a Kyle, but without a Cartman-esque friend. Seriously.

Date: 2009-05-16 12:30 pm (UTC)I figured you were just footnoting because footnoting is awesome and everyone should do it everyday without using it for writing stupid essays or things of that "ilk".
As for Terry Pratchett's use of footnoting, he is the one and only "Best User of Footnoting in This or Any Other Universe". Voted by me (and other Pterry fans worldwide, we won't hear otherwise!).
So, you know, you learn something new every day.
Yes, I learnt long ago that today is always someone else's day. I don't ever hold hope for tomorrow1.
1Yes, regardless if it is Mother's Day or even my birthday - someone always hogs the limelight, especially my other-half's gran who is still hanging on (at 95) to steal all the glory. I was born on my brother's birthday and as he has a disability, he is the one fussed over. Last year, my sister conveniently scheduled her wedding two weeks after my birthday, so my birthday was forgotten by my family during the preparations. This year her first anniversary will probably take up the time of thought. She just had her first baby (the day before Mother's Day), so she is the "new hotness" and Christmas will be all about her kid's first Christmas. So I and my kid will be chopped liver and forgotten! I don't expect anything any more. My childhood crushed all such thoughts of grandiosity. >:(
